history

Until the 19th century

Goldbach was first mentioned in a document in 1218 . South on the top of ball mount the found Höhenburg the castle Kugelberg the Lords of Kugelberg that existed from the 12th to the 14th century. From the middle of the 15th century Goldbach was under the Archbishop of Mainz . As a result of the Paris Treaty of June 3, 1814, Goldbach and Unterafferbach came to Bavaria on June 26, 1814.

By order of October 1 of the same year, the district courts of Aschaffenburg and Kaltenberg were established, on whose administrative areas Goldbach and its district Unterafferbach were located. With the dissolution of the Kaltenberg Regional Court, Unterafferbach also came to the Aschaffenburg Regional Court in 1828. The Aschaffenburg District Office was formed on July 1, 1862, through the merger of the Aschaffenburg and Rothenbuch regional courts .

From the 20th century

In 1939, like everywhere else in the German Reich, the name Bezirksamt was changed to Landkreis. Goldbach was now one of the 33 communities in the old district of Aschaffenburg . On July 1, 1972, this merged with the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia to form the new Aschaffenburg district.

Due to the border regulation with the municipality of Hösbach on October 1, 1958, an approx. 22 hectare area of Goldbach with 41 residential buildings and 313 residents changed to Hösbach, while the Hösbacher Gartenhöfe with a total of approx. 100 hectares changed to Goldbach.

Jewish families have lived in the village since at least the 19th century, and in 1818 they built their own synagogue . From the second half of the 19th century, the Jewish inhabitants of the neighboring village of Hösbach also belonged to the community. The synagogue was devastated by SA men during the November pogrom in 1938 , which has been commemorated by a memorial stone in the parking lot opposite since 1987. In 2008 the names of murdered and deported Jewish residents were added on two boards.

On May 26, 1995 Goldbach was given the name Markt .

In the summer of 2018, archaeologists from the University of Würzburg, with the help of lay helpers from the local history and homeland association, discovered the remains of everyday objects, including a coin with a picture of Archbishop Adalbert of Mainz , parts of weapons and tools, as well as shards of pottery that could be identified as so-called Pingsdorf goods , uncovered in the area of the Kugelberg Castle . The finds suggested a use of the earlier castle as a residential or fortified castle (not as a refuge, as previously assumed ), as well as a much earlier settlement of the municipality, which could go back to the 10th century.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1971, the formerly independent community of Unterafferbach (still called Niederaffholdersbach in 1812) was incorporated into Goldbach.

coat of arms

Goldbach coat of arms
Blazon : "A golden diagonal wave bar in red, above a silver crown of leaves set with colored stones, below a six-spoke silver wheel."

The coat of arms has been used since 1965.

Coat of arms history

The golden brook stands for the place name part -bach . From the 7th to 11th century Goldbach belonged to the area of the Franconian royal estate, for which the crown in the coat of arms stands. The six-spoke, silver Mainz wheel indicates the rule of Kurmainz until 1803 . The colors gold and red are taken from the coat of arms of the Counts of Rieneck, who held the bailiwick of Goldbach as vassals of the Archbishop of Mainz until they died out in 1559.

Community partnerships

The French Courseulles-sur-Mer has been a partner municipality since 1994 .

Culture and sights

Churches and chapels

Goldbach has two Catholic parish churches. The St. Nicholas Church is located in the old town center. This sandstone church in the neo -Romanesque style was built in 1894/95 in place of an older church that had become too small and later expanded with a modern extension.

In the west of the community, then a new development area, the modern church of St. Maria Immaculata was inaugurated in 1961, as St. Nicholas had become too small for the size of the growing community. The simple brick building with the 37 m high asymmetrical tower offers space for about 600 visitors. The chancel is adorned with a monumental painting by the artist Curd Lessig and a modern octagonal chandelier depicting biblical scenes. A special feature of the church is its organ triad. In addition to the main organ comprising 36 sounding registers, built in 1964 by the organ building company Michael Weise , the church has a baroque organ from 1782 that was completely restored in the early 1980s and a positive organ from Hartwig Späth's workshop .

The Protestant Johanneskirche, which was built in 1955 and offers space for around 250 believers, is located on the local border with Hösbach .

In the north-western part of Goldbach there are two other small church buildings, the Marienkapelle used by the Catholic parish and the Edelweiss chapel . The latter was established in 1926 by the local hiking club Edelweiss Club e. V. established in memory of association members who died in the war. In the district Unterafferbach is the 2001 chapel dedicated to "Magnificat" (position) .

Natural monuments

On the eastern edge of Goldbach, two oaks and a plane tree form a natural monument. Another natural monument is located on Österreicher Straße.

Sports and clubs

Motocross on the local racetrack (2016)

A lively sport, cultural and club life takes place in Goldbach. The winter running series held annually by TV Goldbach , in which the aim is to cover 10 km on nine dates, has received a supraregional response . AC Bavaria Goldbach achieved nationwide fame in the 1990s through its success in the German wrestling team championship , and the badminton tournament " German Masters " was held there in 1998 and 1999 . In 2018, the German Motocross Championship, which takes place on the racetrack there, attracted around 5,000 visitors.

Economy and Infrastructure

Trade, commerce and industry

The clothing industry was one of the most important branches of industry in the Bavarian Lower Main, the peak of this was exceeded in the 1970s with around 29,000 employees in almost 400 companies. One of the best-known employers in Goldbach was Basler Fashion , which went bankrupt in 2017 . The same thing happened in 2004 with the men's clothing manufacturer Desch . Since then, mainly small and medium-sized companies have shaped the trade in Goldbach, but the formerly Basel-owned industrial areas are still used by a newly established logistics and service company in the textile industry. Furthermore, the private garbage disposal company Werner RC GmbH & Co has its headquarters in Goldbach, which handles garbage disposal and recycling in the Aschaffenburg district. Goldbach has its own power station , and several smaller companies in the IT and consulting sector are also based there. Other industries represented are glass production , metal processing , road construction , as well as food production and processing.

In February 2018, the municipal council decided to set up an intermunicipal industrial park in cooperation with the city of Aschaffenburg . It is the first of its kind in the region. In August, the decision was confirmed with a corresponding agreement by Mayor Thomas Krimm and Lord Mayor Klaus Herzog .

Transport and development

Goldbach is located directly on the federal motorway 3 between Frankfurt (approx. 45 km away) and Würzburg (approx. 75 km away). Between Goldbach and Hösbach , an enclosure was built to comply with the noise limit values together with an almost 6.5-kilometer six-lane expansion of the motorway between the Aschaffenburg-Ost and Hösbach junctions . This completely encloses the carriageway over a length of approx. 1400 m (east) and 364 or 340 m (west), the costs amounted to approx. 127 million euros, of which approx. 80 million were accounted for by the enclosure itself. The construction time was approx. 3 years, the completion took place in 2005. A special feature is the overhead window areas with a total area of 9500 m², which make lighting of the system superfluous during the day. The project caused controversy locally as well as nationwide. a. mentioned in the “ Black Book 2003” of the Federation of Taxpayers as one of the biggest wastes of taxpayers' money of the year. Karl Heinz Däke , Chairman of the BdSt, described the above-ground tunnel as "luxury noise protection" without any real need. The Northern Bavaria Motorway Directorate contradicted this representation. There is no cheaper alternative to the enclosure; without noise protection, the immission limit values would have been exceeded by more than 20  dB . Measures such as noise barriers are not promising due to the location of the motorway in a valley shaped like a funnel.

In 2008 Goldbach was included in the urban development program " Urban Redevelopment West " set up in 2004 by the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria.

At the beginning of 2010, the market town council of Goldbach decided on a communal funding program based on this, which enabled the promotion of measures that served the design enhancement and urban development of buildings, as well as the adaptation of private open and outdoor areas to the public space. Several buildings in the center of the village, including the old fire station, were converted and made usable for club work. The town center, the area surrounding the St. Nikolaus Church and parts of Aschaffenburger Straße were renovated as part of the West Urban Redevelopment , and the market square in the center of the town was also redesigned.

Commercial spaces that are no longer in use are currently being converted as part of the funding program for new living space. According to the investors and the municipality, the focus here is on barrier-free and cross-generational living . In addition, an area of around 12 hectares on the border with Hösbach is to be developed as a new development area with a total of 33 building sites in 2019 .

The municipal treasurer described Goldbach in the spring of 2018 as "quasi debt-free". Existing payment obligations are balanced by reserves. The budget volume for 2018 was 31.92 million euros (2017: 30.63 million euros), including investments of around 6.8 million euros (5.5 million euros last year). Goldbach's per capita debt is 27 percent below the average for Bavaria. Significant burdens on the municipal budget will arise from infrastructure measures that will be necessary in the near future , such as the expansion of the sewer and water supply network with the simultaneous elimination of road construction contributions .

In September 2016, the State Ministry of Finance, State Development and Homeland replied to a written request from State Parliament member Günther Felbinger (then Free Voters ) on the status of broadband expansion in the Aschaffenburg district that two thirds of the existing Internet access in Goldbach had a Transmission speed from 50 Mbit / s would be operated (according to its own information, the ministry was referring to data from TÜV Rheinland from the end of 2015).

Public facilities

At the end of the village in the direction of Unterafferbach there is the forest swimming pool , an outdoor pool . In 2018 it was visited by more than 100,000 bathers. The Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs has provided more than 2 million euros in funding for extensive renovation measures, which are to begin in autumn 2019 . In Goldbach there is a primary and a middle school , both of which also offer an all-day school , as well as four day-care centers and a crèche . The swimming pool of the elementary and middle school is open to the public in the winter months. In the municipality there are a total of fourteen children's playgrounds , two football fields and two sports halls, as well as a youth center in the street Am Sachsenhausen .

Oddities

Artificial tower ruin

In 2012, the Goldbach market built a turning plate on the boundary with Aschaffenburg at the end of Österreicher Straße. An approximately 3 m high miniature of a ruin-like medieval defense tower was erected on the green area in the middle of this turning plate. The artificial ruin is supposed to remind of the legendary castle of the Lords of Kugelberg. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were two tall observation towers in today's Goldbach municipality: one on the Kugelberg, not far away, and one on the Grauer Stein between Glattbach and Unterafferbach. From both towers there are still relics of the former foundations.
