Johann Desch

Johann Desch (born April 27, 1848 in Glattbach , † January 29, 1920 in Aschaffenburg ) is one of the founders of industrial clothing manufacturing in Germany.

Life

Desch was a trained tailor and made custom-made uniforms for the Prussian military during the German War in 1866 . He came to the conclusion that the human body has anatomical , related proportions that can be precisely determined . From 1874 Desch implemented this knowledge in a factory at Sandgasse 43, which was the first in Germany to mass-produce men's clothing . In 1892 he acquired the Hotel Diana at the main train station, had it demolished and built the new three-story factory building there.

Through newly emerging clothing stores, his men's clothing was sold to the rapidly growing population in the industrial cities of Hanau , Offenbach am Main and Frankfurt am Main . Home workers from the economically weak Spessart carried out the sewing work for him. The Aschaffenburg area subsequently became one of the centers of the clothing industry. At the height of development in 1955 there were around 400 textile processing companies with almost 19,000 employees in the region.

The clothing factory Desch moved to Goldbach in 1953, went bankrupt in 2003 and was until then one of the oldest clothing factories in the world.
