history

Mainaschaff was first given the privilege of Pope Lucius III. Mentioned in a document as a disposition for the Aschaffenburg Abbey from 1184. At the beginning of the 12th century, the small town, which mainly consisted of agricultural farms, belonged to the St. Peter and Alexander Monastery (see also: St. Peter and Alexander Collegiate Church ) in Aschaffenburg. The residents, who lived mainly from fruit growing and fishing, had to pay regular taxes and labor to this monastery.

On July 1, 1862, the district office of Aschaffenburg was formed, on whose administrative territory Mainaschaff was located. In 1872 Mainaschaff became an independent municipality. In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Mainaschaff was now one of the 33 communities in the old district of Aschaffenburg . On July 1, 1972, this merged with the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia to form the new Aschaffenburg district.

From 1917 to 1972 there was a barrage with a footbridge over the Main near Mainaschaff at about the level of Ankergasse, with a power station in the middle of the river and a raft lane on the Mainaschaffer Ufer. The lock and fish passage were on the Stockstadt bank of the Main.

coat of arms

Blazon : a silver wave goblet; in front five times divided by gold and red, behind in red half a standing silver wheel, in the shield base blue.

History of the coat of arms: The wave göpel symbolizes the confluence of the rivers Main and Aschaff. Their names also speak for the community name. The reduced division of red and gold in the front half of the shield comes from the coat of arms of the Counts of Rieneck , who historically owned parts of the community. Half the wheel comes from the coat of arms of the Kurstaate Mainz, to which the place belonged until 1803. The colors blue in the shield base and silver in the Wellengöpel are the colors of Bavaria, to which the place has belonged since 1816.

The Mainaschaff coat of arms was awarded on August 28, 1968.
