Numerous specializations developed here, for example Christmas tree decorations from Lauscha and thermometers and other laboratory glassware from Ilmenau . The world's first thermometer and X-ray tube were manufactured in Stützerbach near Ilmenau . Ilmenau was also the location of the largest glass factory in the GDR , namely the VEB factory for technical glass in Ilmenau .
