Jürgen Wuchner (* 1948 in Kleinostheim , † 1. May 2020 in Darmstadt ) was a bass player of the Creative Jazz .

Live and act

After studying at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt , he played double bass and electric bass in the groups of Hans Koller , Heinz Sauer , Herbert Joos and Günther Klatt . He became known to a larger audience with the Vienna Art Orchestra and the singer Özay Fecht .

Since 1983 he has been involved in experiments with jazz / string groups ( String Project and Family of Percussion meets Bass Strings and The Bassic Trio with Vitold Rek and Norbert Dömling ). Outstanding was his Tribute to Charles Mingus band with u. a. Janusz Stefański , Karl Berger and Matthias Schubert and a group with Rudi Mahall , Marty Cook and Tom Nicholas . Most recently he played in a trio with vibraphonist Christopher Dell and drummer Günter “Baby” Sommer (dr) as well as in a quartet with woodwind player Wollie Kaiser , trumpeter Thomas Siffling and drummer Janusz Stefanski. Wuchner worked as a studio musician for radio and television and made guest appearances at numerous international festivals. a. with Harry Beckett , John Tchicai or Louis Moholo .

In 1992 Wuchner founded the annual “Jazz Conceptions” Darmstadt workshop. Together with Uli Partheil , he ran a jazz & pop school in Darmstadt and also taught at the local academy for music. From 2009 he lived alternately in Darmstadt and Dakar .

Prizes and awards

In 1996 Wuchner was awarded the Hessian Jazz Prize for his work as a musician and teacher . In 2012 the Darmstadt Music Prize went to him as the “engine” behind many Darmstadt jazz activities, in which he often played in the background, always encouraging, and who himself repeatedly appeared in public with his own exciting band projects.
