Norbert Dömling

Norbert Dömling (born January 25, 1952 in Würzburg ) is a German jazz rock and modern jazz bassist .

Life

Dömling, who learned to play bass guitar and double bass as an autodidact , first played in a blues band . On the way through the group Embryo he was a member of the jazz rock group Missus Beastly , with which he recorded two records and played in 1975 with guest musicians such as Wolfgang Dauner , Zbigniew Seifert and Janusz Stefański at the 106th NDR jazz workshop. Dömling turned to the jazz camp in 1977 and performed with Joachim Kühn , Jasper van't Hof , Charlie Mariano , Leszek Zadlo , Stu Goldberg , Trilok Gurtu and Tomasz Stańko . From 1978 he was a member of Toto Blankes Electric Circus, with whom he recorded three albums and played at numerous European festivals. He also worked with guitarists such as Juraj Galan , Peter Horton and Biréli Lagrène , but was also with Billy Cobham (Trio LP Cargo 1982), Dom Um Romão and Wilson de Oliveira or with the project “Jazz Meets Tango” (with Juan José Mosalini or Serge Amico at the bandoneon) and on tour with Peter Giger's Family of Percussion . In the Bassic Trio he plays with his double bass colleagues Jürgen Wuchner and Vitold Rek ; He is also active in the Hermann Kock Trio and with Ali Neander in the Fifty Fingers Acoustic Orchestra and also gives solo bass concerts.

Dömling also teaches and is the author of a textbook on electric bass flageolets. He has developed a special pickup for the fretless bass .
