Thomas Siffling (born December 18, 1972 in Karlsruhe ) is a German jazz musician (trumpet, composition) and music producer with roots in Karlsruhe. He lives with his family in Mannheim, his adopted home .

Live and act

Thomas Siffling studied jazz trumpet with Stephan Zimmermann at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim and completed an artistic postgraduate course with Claus Stötter at the State University for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart .

He was a member of the Baden-Württemberg Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Bernd Konrad and the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer . In 1998 he was involved in a production by Maria Schneider for Hessischer Rundfunk . In 2000 he performed with Martin Lejeunes Martin’s Horns at the German Jazz Festival Frankfurt . In May 2001, on the occasion of a tour of his Thomas Siffling Group, the broadcast recording for Bayerischer Rundfunk took place . He was with the Mardi Gras.bb in the studio ( Zen Rodeo ) and on tour through Europe and Canada, with the Rhythm Boiler Street Band in Thailand (with Patrick Manzecchi, among others ). Furthermore, there was cooperation with the sons of Mannheim , Pit Baumgartner / DePhazz , MAX (JPop) , re: jazz , Jazz X Change , Fritz Münzer , the Rainer Tempel Big Band as well as festival concerts in Thessaloniki and tours with their own trio (Romania , Canada, Norway, India). He also performed with “Public Sound Office”.

In 2007 his first concept album, kitchen-music, was released . Producer and musician Pit Baumgartner gave him the idea of ​​combining jazz music with a concept. This is how kitchen-music came about with recipes in the booklet and apron as well as pot holders as fan articles. Another concept album Cruisen was released in 2009 .

From 2000 to 2018 he led the SAP Big Band , with which he released several albums. In 2005 he was appointed to the jury of the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize . Between 2010/11 and 2014 Siffling was a lecturer in jazz trumpet at the Saar University of Music . He published his first ballet music in 2013 for the Kevin O'Day Ballet at the Mannheim National Theater . In the same year he made an extensive tour of Russia with the Thomas Siffling Trio and founded the cross-genre Hermann Art collective .

In 2014 he and Claus Boesser-Ferrari released songs with music from 5 centuries as a second album together. In January 2015 his second ballet music, 2 Gents, based on a novella by William Shakespeare, premiered in the opera house of the Mannheim National Theater. In 2017 his electronically influenced first quintet album FLOW was released as the first release of the Jazznarts Records eSeries . Numerous concerts at renowned German festivals followed. He gave guest performances with Thomas Siffling FLOW a. a. at the Jazz Days Dresden , the Ludwigsburg Jazz Days, Enjoy Jazz , Das Fest Karlsruhe , Jazz im Hofgarten Düsseldorf, Palatia Jazz , Jazz & Joy Worms and much more. In 2018, concerts with Thomas Siffling FLOW at the Jazzopen Stuttgart and a first club tour followed. In April 2018 he released the album ragbag by Club des Belugas & Thomas Siffling in a second collaboration with Chin Chin Records .

During his career so far, Siffling has toured countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Canada, Haiti, Russia, South America, many countries in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and all countries in Western Europe.

With his company SP-Siffling Productions he operates the labels Personality Records and Jazznarts Records.

Honourings and prices

In 1999 Siffling received the city of Mannheim's sponsorship award for young artists. In 2000 he and his quartet (including Rainer Böhm and Markus Faller ) won first prize at the Daimler-Chrysler talent competition in the jazz category. In 2005 he was awarded the prestigious jazz prize of the state of Baden-Württemberg . In 2007 he received a grant from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation .
