History of the VAB

1995-2000

On November 1, 1995, VAB started operations as a corporate group of StwAB, VU and KVG. A uniform tariff was created so that all buses can be used with one ticket.

With the timetable change in May 1996, there is the first joint timetable. The lines are reorganized, the clocks are compressed and the individual buses are better synchronized. Since then, with a few exceptions, all lines to Aschaffenburg and in the Obernburg area have been running at least every hour, and in Aschaffenburg itself sometimes every 15 minutes.

Since Deutsche Bahn joined the network in 2000, all RegionalBahn (RB) and RegionalExpress trains (RE) can be used with the VAB ticket on the railway lines from Kahl am Main, Stockstadt, Heigenbrücken, Miltenberg, Wertheim and Schneeberg to Aschaffenburg.

2001 – today

In 2003, the VAB-RMV transition tariff was launched. This means that passengers can also use one ticket to reach destinations of the Hessian Rhein-Main transport association .

In August 2004 the VAB subscription card was introduced. This enables schoolchildren, trainees, students and adults to use all local public transport in the VAB region at a lower price and without restrictions.

In autumn 2008 the new regional bus station opened on the west side of the main train station. Instead of being distributed along the entire Bahnhofstrasse, all the stops are centrally located at this point.

Since the 2008/2009 timetable change, the Untermain transport company has been operating under the name DB Untermainbus.

Since August 1, 2009, the annual network tickets for adults and schoolchildren have been valid on the Miltenberg – Wertheim – Würzburg bus route.

The Bahncard 100 has been valid in the entire VAB area since January 1, 2013 .
