history
The oldest surviving written mention of the place can be found in a deed of donation from Emperor Otto II.
The place became famous on the one hand through the Battle of Dettingen on June 27, 1743 in which the British-Hanoverian army under the personal command of King George II of Great Britain achieved a victory over a French army.
On the other hand, George Frideric Handel named a Te Deum composed by him in honor of the British victory after the village where the battle took place.
Since 1858 Dettingen has had a train station on the Hanau – Aschaffenburg railway line, which was opened two years earlier . The municipality of Dettingen am Main belonged to the Alzenau district office , which was formed on July 1, 1862. On January 1, 1939, this became part of the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia . With its dissolution, Dettingen came to the newly formed district of Aschaffenburg on July 1, 1972 .

Oddities
When in 1854 the railway network of the Königl. Bayer. Ludwigs-West-Bahn was connected to the Frankfurt-Hanauer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , later Hessische Ludwigsbahn , a direct railway connection Würzburg – Frankfurt am Main was created through Dettingen. At that time, many people from Detting found employment with the railway; They proudly wore their " stand-up collar uniform ". This earned them the nickname ( Ortsnecknames ) "standing crow" from the neighboring towns . Today's Dettingen (Main) station is on the Frankfurt Süd – Aschaffenburg railway line .
