Dettinger Te Deum
The Dettinger Te Deum ( HWV 283) is a sacred choral work by Georg Friedrich Händel . The text is based on the early church Te Deum in the English version of the Book of Common Prayer from 1662. Handel composed it for a thanksgiving service on the occasion of the victory of the Austro-British military over the French troops in the Battle of Dettingen on June 27, 1743. The original is Written for two choirs and a large orchestra.
For the composition, Handel used musical material from a Latin Te Deum by Francesco Antonio Urio .
Of the five Te Deum compositions by Handel, Dettinger is best known, along with the Utrecht Te Deum .
