Francesco Antonio Urio

Francesco Antonio Urio (* around 1631 in Milan , † around 1719 probably there) was an Italian baroque composer .

Life

Francesco Urio, who belonged to the Order of the Minorites , held several positions as Kapellmeister in the course of his life, for example at cathedrals and churches in Spoleto , Urbino , Assisi , in Rome at the Church of Santi XII Apostoli and in Milan. He composed several oratorios and other church music.

Georg Friedrich Handel borrowed various themes from Urio's works, which he used in four of his works, including a “Te Deum”, parts of which were taken over in “Saul”. Elements of Urios can also be found in "Israel in Egypt" , " Julius Caesar " and the " Dettinger Te Deum ".
