Hans-Joachim Manske

Hans-Joachim Manske (* 1944 in Osnabrück ) is a German art historian and administrative officer.

Live and act

Hans-Joachim Manske studied art history at the Universities of Hamburg and Bonn . In 1978 he was in Bonn with the work Der Meister von Osnabrück. Osnabrück sculpture around 1500 for Dr. phil. PhD .

From 1974 until his retirement in 2009 he was head of department for fine arts, monument preservation and regional archeology at the Senator for Culture Bremen , where he was responsible for curating the program “ Art in Public Space Bremen ”. From 1997 to 2004 he was project manager for the world heritage application of the city of Bremen for the Bremen town hall and the Bremen Roland . Until 2014 he was director of the Städtische Galerie Bremen .

Until 2009 he also taught architectural theory and building history at the University of Bremen and was awarded the title of professor .

Hans-Joachim Manske published works in particular on the subjects of art in public spaces, sculpture after 1945, historical art and architecture in Bremen and late Gothic sculpture in Northern Germany.
