Florian Matzner

Florian Matzner (* 1961 in Essen ) is a German art scholar and curator .

Live and act

Matzner studied art history in Marburg, Hamburg and Rome and received his doctorate in 1991 on the subject of state iconography in the Italian Renaissance at the Philipps University of Marburg . He then had a teaching position for art studies at the design and architecture departments of the Münster University of Applied Sciences and was a research volunteer at the Westphalian State Museum for Art and Cultural History in Münster until the beginning of 1993 . In 1993 he became a scientific consultant at the Westphalian State Museum. Since 1998 he has held a professorship for art history at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich .

From 2002 to 2005 Matzner was chairman of the “Commission for Art in Buildings and Art in Public Spaces” of the city of Munich. Since 2003 he has been a member of the Bremen State Advisory Board for Art in Public Spaces and Artist Funding, and since 2014 a member of the Hamburg Elbkulturfonds. He is the author and editor of extensive works as well as the curator of numerous exhibitions on contemporary art with a focus on art in public spaces .

Florian Matzner lives in Munich and Rosignano Marittimo (Tuscany) .
