Gönz is a district of the Weilbach market in the Miltenberg district . The village is 7 km west of Weilbach in the Bavarian part of the Odenwald . In June 2007 Gönz had about 50 inhabitants.

history

The village was first mentioned on November 28, 1266, when Ulrich III. von Dürn , who resided as guardian of the Wildenburg , sent some barrels of wine from Gönz to the monastery in Amorbach . In 1272 the knight Dither male from Amorbach donated all his possessions in Godence (as Gönz is called in the document) to the Himmelthal monastery .

According to the records of the Amorbach City Archives, there was an active grain mill on the Gönzbach in 1668 , which ceased its service in 1952 and was demolished.

In 1879 the community of Gönz was incorporated into Weckbach. On July 1, 1977, Weckbach was incorporated into the Weilbach market.

Worth seeing

The chapel, built in 1787, and a bronze statue of St. Vitus, the patron saint of the chapel, built in 1990 are well worth seeing. The chapel contains a baroque wooden altar from the 18th century resting on six small columns and numerous carved figures based on a painting by Mathias Grünewald .
