geography

The parish village of Mechenhard is located in the Spessart at about 260  m above sea level. NN on the district road MIL 27 between Erlenbach and Eschau .

history

Mechenhard is named as a branch in 1279 in the chronicle of the parish Erlenbach according to documents from the Himmelthal monastery .

In 1862 the district office of Obernburg was formed, on whose administrative area Mechenhard was located. As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Mechenhard was now one of the 35 communities in the district of Obernburg am Main (vehicle registration number OBB ). With the dissolution of the district of Obernburg, Mechenhard came to the newly formed district of Miltenberg in 1972 (license plate MIL / OBB (possible again since 2018)).

On January 1, 1976, the independent community of Mechenhard was incorporated into Erlenbach am Main.

Oddities

The Mechenharder high-altitude dwellers blasphemed those in the valley, who in turn used those up there. The people living on the heights were said to be in good health, hardened against all weather conditions. That is why they called the surrounding places "Mountain Indians". Because of their cereal fields gleaming in the sun, they were still given the Uz name "Strohköpp".

In 2019 the last baker, the Vill bakery, closed its doors after 120 years. [1]
