Paul Pfinzing (born August 29, 1554, probably in Nuremberg ; † July 1, 1599 there ), an important cartographer , came from the Nuremberg patrician family Pfinzing von Henfenfeld .

Pfinzing was a member of the Inner Council of the Imperial City of Nuremberg . As a result, he was also one of the six forest lords of the Sebalder and Lorenz imperial forests .

As a lord of the forest, he created the Pfinzing Atlas of 1594 on the Nuremberg territory . He worked with a specially developed marching compass, with a pedometer and a speedometer for his horse-drawn vehicle.

Paul Pfinzing hiking trail

The Paul-Pfinzing-Gymnasium in the city ​​of Hersbruck is named after him.

In honor of Paul Pfinzing, a 100 km long circular hiking trail through Hersbrucker Switzerland was named after him. The path is marked with two intertwined black "P" s on a yellow background and leads around Hersbruck. Details on the route can be found in OpenStreetMap under Route FAV 13.
