Fritz Schnelbögl

Fritz Schnelbögl (born January 26, 1905 in Schnaittach , † September 10, 1977 in Erlangen ) was a German historian , archivist and local researcher.

Life

Schnelbögl attended the Erasmus grammar school in Amberg . Then he studied German and history in Heidelberg and Munich . In 1929 he received his doctorate in Munich to Dr phil. with a work on the subject of the Heidelberg manuscripts 364 ( Parzival G * and Lohengrin A) . From 1931 to 1934 he trained as an archivist in Munich. From 1934 Schnelbögl worked as an archivist at the Nuremberg State Archives . With its 1939 written Scripture: The Jews in the circle drive (The champions against the world enemy Judah , Franconia leader Gauleiter Julius Streicher , February 12, 1939 presented by the circulation ...) tried Schnelbögl with the came to power Nazi state to arrange. Schnelbögl did military service from 1939 to 1949 and was then a Soviet prisoner of war . After his return he resumed his work at the Nuremberg State Archives. In 1952 he was a co-founder of the Altnürnberger Landschaft association. From 1953 to 1968 Schnelbögl was director of the Nuremberg State Archives, where he was particularly responsible for the imperial city archive. In the Association for the History of the City of Nuremberg , Schnelbögl was secretary from 1953 to 1962 and deputy chairman from 1969 to 1975.

The publication of the Bohemian Salbüchlein in 1973 holds a special place in Fritz Schnelbögl's life's work . He transferred the handwritten Bohemian Salbüchlein in print form together with explanations, a register and a glossary for the ancient words, names and units of measurement. Today (2019) this important work is only available as an antiquarian or as a digital copy at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek .

In Schnelbögl's birthplace Schnaittach, a street was named after him.
