Wolfgang Leesch
Wolfgang Leesch (born June 7, 1913 in Königshütte , Upper Silesia , † March 9, 2006 in Münster ) was a German historian and archivist .
Life
Leesch studied history, German and English in Breslau and Berlin . In 1937 he received his doctorate from the University of Breslau with a thesis on the history of German Catholicism in Silesia in the 19th century. From 1937 to 1939 he attended the archivist course at the Institute for Archive Studies in Berlin-Dahlem.
He began his archival career in 1939 as an archive assessor at the Reichsarchiv in Potsdam, where he worked until 1945. After the war he made a fresh start in his career in the Federal Republic by going to the archives advisory office in Westphalia in Münster in 1946 . He worked there for a total of eleven years. In 1957 he moved to the State Archives in Münster , where he retired in 1978.
In 1966 Leesch was elected a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia .
