Ernst Gagel (born June 16, 1916 in Fürth ; † September 27, 1975 in Erlangen ) was a German high school professor and local researcher .

Life

After studying at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the University of Erlangen, Ernst Gagel passed the scientific examination for teaching at secondary schools in the subjects of geography, history and German.

From January 1941 he supported Otto Berninger (1898–1991) as a student assistant at the Erlangen Institute for Geography, who had to maintain teaching there on his own since the beginning of the Second World War. Already in the summer semester of 1943 he held cartographic exercises under Berninger's direction. In his doctoral thesis, written in 1944 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Erlangen , he dealt with Paul Pfinzing's work for German cartography and was able to become administrator of the assistant position. In November 1944 he followed Erich Otremba as a research assistant. He held this position until he left in 1949.

Gagel then taught at the Kepler Gymnasium Weiden from 1950 until his death , most recently as director of studies . Among other things, he headed the revived local history working group Weiden in the Oberpfälzer Waldverein from 1955 , which published local history research results in its series under Gagel's editorial management Oberpfälzer Heimat . In 1957 he was also given the office of home curator in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate.
