history

Dornau was first mentioned in a document in 1243. Up to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803, Dornau was under the rule of the Archbishopric Mainz and was there on the territory of the district bailiff Kleinwallstadt in the Vizedomamt Aschaffenburg. After that it was part of the newly founded Principality of Aschaffenburg , which was part of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt for the years 1810 to 1813 . During this time, Dornau belonged as a Mairie to the Districtsmairie Kleinwallstadt of the department of Aschaffenburg. In 1812 Dornau had 20 fireplaces and 113 residents. Maire and Landzöller was Conrad Fries. His adjuncts were Wilhelm Schüßler and Peter Priz.

As a result of the Paris Treaty of June 3, 1814, Dornau came together with the territory of the former Principality of Aschaffenburg on June 26, 1814 to the Crown of Bavaria. From 1817 onwards, Dornau belonged to District Court III. Class Kleinwallstadt, Principality of Aschaffenburg, Lower Main District. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the rural community of Dornau was created with the municipal edict of 1818 . In 1862 the district office of Obernburg was formed, on whose administrative territory Dornau was located. As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Dornau was now one of the 35 municipalities in the district of Obernburg am Main (license plate OBB ). On July 1, 1971, the formerly independent municipality of Dornau was incorporated into Sulzbach am Main. With the dissolution of the district of Obernburg, Dornau became part of the newly formed district of Miltenberg (license plate MIL ).
