Surname
etymology
The name Kleinwallstadt is made up of the Old High German words Walah for novels and stat for home. As an explanation, this results in the residence of the Romans . The sometimes used name additions Klein , Wenig and Bischofs as well as the Latinized differentiations minor (the smaller) and Episcopi (the bishop) should distinguish it from Großwallstadt . The addition of bishop refers to the manorial power of the bishop.

history
Until the church is planted
Kleinwallstadt was settled very early. Archaeological finds from the Hallstatt period indicate the prehistoric inhabitants. In a new find (1980), female skeletal remains with beautiful grave goods from the Alemannic period (4th – 5th centuries) were brought to light.
Kleinwallstadt, also Bischofswallstadt, was evangelized by the Lorsch and Amorbach monasteries in the early 8th century . In 1023 the Archbishop of Mainz set up a bailiwick and a tithe court over a large part of the Spessart . In the 12th and early 13th centuries, the Lords of Waldenberg were enfeoffed with the place. Around 1185 they built Wallberg Castle (Waleberc) on a mountain ledge east of the village , but it was destroyed in the middle of the 13th century. The remains of the old castle were archaeologically researched from 2006 to 2010. Parts of the castle wall and building foundations in the foundations have been restored to some extent. A display board explains the structure and history of the castle. The Focke von Wallstadt had lived in the village since the 16th century . The last of his family, Philipp Albrecht Focke von Wallstadt, canon in Mainz , sold their residence, the Ingelheimer Hof next to the town hall and the associated goods in 1587 to the Echter von Mespelbrunn , when they died out, the property passed to the imperial counts of Ingelheim .
Under Archbishop Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg , 84 witches were executed in Kleinwallstadt in 1611 . Since Kleinwallstadt was very badly hit during the Swedish Wars ( Thirty Years War ) and all records and documents were destroyed, the Archbishop of Mainz issued a new guild order for Kleinwallstadt and its surrounding villages in 1733 . This shows that there was already a lot of business in Kleinwallstadt and the surrounding area, because it lists 17 professions, such as bender , beer brewer, carpenter, bricklayer, stoner, dyer, glazier, stocking weaver and linen weaver. In 1737 the Elector of Mainz confirmed and re-certified the market rights that were certainly granted earlier .
The Bailiwick of Kleinwallstadt of the Archbishopric Mainz fell to the newly formed Principality of Aschaffenburg in 1803 in the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 , with which it came to Bavaria as a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt in 1814 . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Administrative history
In 1862 the district office of Obernburg was formed, on whose administrative area Kleinwallstadt was located. As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Kleinwallstadt was now one of the 35 communities in the district of Obernburg am Main . With the dissolution of the district of Obernburg, Kleinwallstadt came to the newly formed district of Miltenberg on July 1, 1972 .

coat of arms
Blazon : In silver a red Roman watchtower with a tent roof, on the top right a split label and divided twice by silver and black on the left side, on the top left a red label with a six-spoke silver wheel.
The watchtower refers to the Roman Limes that ran here. The small coat of arms in black and white is the family coat of arms of the Vocken (or Focke) von Wallstadt, who were feudal lords and bailiffs here until they died out in 1624 . The other small coat of arms in red and silver shows the Mainz wheel and thus refers to the long relationship with the Electorate of Mainz .
The coat of arms has been used since 1955 by resolution of the municipal council and with the consent of the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior.
