Culture and sights

Architectural monuments

Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul

The parish church is a hall building covered with a gable roof with a retracted, semicircular closing choir and a sacristy attached to the north. The unplastered sandstone building with ashlar frames was built in the late classicist style between 1822 and 1827. The western gable facade was supplemented in 1890 in neo-Romanesque style with rich ashlar elements. A late Gothic tower of the previous building with a square floor plan and a slate, octagonal pointed helmet connects to the choir in a southerly direction. The ceiling painting in the hall focuses on the assumption of Mary into heaven. A special feature of the furnishings is the baroque nativity scene from the second half of the 18th century, bought from Munich at the end of the 19th century. It is a gift from the Mayor of Neunkirchen at the time, Andreas Weimer, and shows the birth of Jesus in the stable of Bethlehem Annunciation to the shepherds, the adoration of the baby Jesus by the wise men from the east, the flight of the holy family to Egypt, the house of the holy family in Nazareth, the presentation of Jesus in the Jerusalem temple and the wedding in Cana. The current organ dates from 1913 and was manufactured by the Schlimbach company from Würzburg.

Oddities

Neunkirchen

The Feast of the Fourteen Holy Helpers in August was a major holiday in the congregation, on which many believers came from abroad. High mass and procession through the village were the highlight of the day. There was also a total indulgence associated with the festival . This led to the Ortsneck name "Ablasstiker".

Richelbach

In Richelbach, the "poor people's dish" semmede , a simple pastry fried in oil and served with apple puree, was widespread. This led to the insulting of the Richelbachers as "Samedsfresser" in the neighboring towns.
