Hinterthurgau

The geographical region of Hinterthurgau is located in the Swiss canton of Thurgau . It is the southernmost part of the canton and roughly covers the political district of Münchwilen . This is 155.86 km², is located in the middle of the two central regions of Wil and Winterthur and is home to around 40,000 people.

In popular parlance and in tourism advertising, the higher, southernmost part of Hinterthurgau - between Bichelsee , Oberwangen and the Dreikantonestein - is also known as the pine cone country because of the large coniferous forests . As an economic region, Hinterthurgau was marketed as Südthurgau from 2009 to 2016 .
