Anne Haug (born January 20, 1983 in Bayreuth ) is a German duathlete and triathlete . Her greatest success is winning the Ironman Hawaii 2019. She is German Duathlon Champion of the years 2008 and 2009, German Vice-Champion Triathlon of 2009, Vice-World Champion Triathlon (2012), German Triathlon Champion on the sprint distance (2013) as well two-time Olympic participant (2012, 2016). She is listed as the leader in the best list of German triathletes on the Ironman distance .
Career
Haug is a qualified sports scientist (TU Munich) and lives in Bayreuth and Munich. She was trained for several years by the Luxembourgish sports scientist Dan Lorang from Munich and Michael Hahn , lecturer at the Technical University of Munich and former top swimmer of the German Swimming Association (DSV). Anne Haug competes for the clubs EJOT Team TV Buschütten, Team Icehouse and LG Stadtwerke München .
U23 European Champion Winter Triathlon 2007
In 2007 she became the European winter triathlon champion in her age group (20 to 24 years).
In 2008 she became German Duathlon Champion and she was able to repeat this success the following year. At the Duathlon World Championship, she finished fifth in 2009.
At the end of 2011, Anne Haug moved to Australia on her own to prepare for the Olympic Games in London and the qualifying race in May in Madrid under her new coach Darren Smith . In May 2012, she and Svenja Bazlen qualified for a place in the Summer Olympics in Madrid, where they competed for Germany with Anja Dittmer . Anne Haug finished eleventh in the race with a time of 2:01:35 hours.
Vice-World Champion Triathlon 2012
With her victory at the Grand Final in New Zealand in October she became Vice World Champion 2012. She was the best and first German in the medal ranks of the World Championships on the short distance that have been held since 1989.
In August 2013 Anne Haug became German champion on the triathlon sprint distance in Hanover. In the 2013 World Championship racing series, she was third after seven races in September in London. She rejoined the association and has since returned to training under her former coach, Dan Lorang . In the election for Sportswoman of the Year 2013, Anne Haug came in 16th.
At the end of May 2014, Anne Haug was injured during the World Cup race in London and she had to cancel the planned starts for the next races.
On the triathlon sprint distance, she became German runner-up in June 2015.
She was the first DTU triathlete to qualify for a starting place at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and she confirmed her nomination in April 2016 with fourth place in Cape Town. The Triathlon World Championship Series race in 2015 she joined after ten races in September from the fifth-best German on the 29th rank.
In May 2016 she was the best German fifth at the European Triathlon Championships on the Olympic distance.
Ironman 70.3 winner 2017
In her first start in the middle distance, she won the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote in September 2017.
In her first start on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) she finished fourth at the Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt am Main in July 2018 . In September she finished third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in South Africa . At her first start in Hawaii, the then 35-year-old took third place at the Ironman Hawaii in October . She achieved the first medal for women since 2008 ( Sandra Wallenhorst ) and with the fastest marathon of the day for women (2:55:22 h), she set the seventh fastest time ever run in Hawaii.
Winner Ironman World Championships 2019
In August 2019 she set a new course record at Ironman Copenhagen and with her winning time of 8:31:32 h she also holds the German record on the Ironman distance. In October, the 36-year-old was the first German athlete to win the Ironman Hawaii. In December, Anne Haug was voted triathlete of the year by the readers of 'Triathlon' magazine .
