The Mallorca Marathon (officially Palma de Mallorca Marathon ) is a marathon , half marathon and 10 km run that has been held every year on the 3rd Sunday in October in Palma de Mallorca since 2004 .

organization

The Palma de Mallorca Marathon was launched in 2015 to continue an already established international marathon in the city of Palma. During its eleven editions, it became internationally known under the name TUI Marathon (2003–2014). Since 2015, Kumulus and the Municipal Institute for Sport (IME) of the City Hall of Palma de Mallorca have been the official organizers of the PMM. The Mallorca Marathon was organized until the end of 2014 by eichels: Event GmbH , which also oversees the Hanover Marathon , under the name TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca after the organizer TUI ESPAÑA Turismo SA

The program includes a marathon , half marathon and a 10 km run. The Palma de Mallorca Marathon is very international and in 2015 had 45 participating nationalities. The majority of the participants are tourists, of whom the majority from the German-speaking area, but also many runners from Great Britain, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland go every year at the start.

The start is on the Passeig de Sagrera. First it goes 3.5 kilometers along the port in a southbound direction on the Passeig Marítimo, then back to the starting point and into the old town with the cathedral La Seu , which is passed at km 15. At 20 km the routes split. The half marathon runners run straight to the finish on the Passeig de Sagrera, while the marathon runners first go on a loop along the Platja de Palma , whose easternmost point is at S'Arenal .

In 2005, the blind Paralympics gold medalist and world record holder Henry Wanyoike was led to the finish by the German runner Hannes Schmidt after his guide had to stop the run shortly before the finish due to a stitch in his side. Together, Wanyoike and Schmidt took third and fourth place in the half marathon. At the same run, the "King of Mallorca" Jürgen Drews made his marathon debut. In 5:09:54 h he finished 15th out of 20 participants in the M60 age group. 2007 did him Tim Bergmann (3:30:53) and 2008 Milka Loff Fernandes after (4:56:25).

In 2014, 11,294 participants started over the various distances.
