Career

Triathlon since 1998

After trying different sports in her youth - such as swimming , tennis and rhythmic gymnastics - she got into triathlon in 1998. The occasion was a stay as an au pair in the USA, more precisely in Memphis in the state of Tennessee. According to Brede, because of the high-calorie American food, he put on weight considerably in a short time. She wanted to counteract this by joining a swimming training group. Most of the members of this group were triathletes, so they soon took up running and cycling too.

Back in Germany, she joined the triathlon department of the Krefeld Canoe Club . For the triathlon team of this club she started first in the second and from 2000 in the first triathlon Bundesliga .

Triathlon professional since 2004

In 2004 Brede switched to the professional camp. In the same year she became German champion over the middle distance, took second place at the Ironman Austria in Klagenfurt and successfully took part in other competitions.

The following year Brede just missed defending his title. She came second behind Katja Schumacher at the German championships over the middle distance . She also took second place at the Ironman Lanzarote in 2005. In the same year she won the triathlon competitions over the middle distance in Bonn and Cologne.

Winner Ironman Germany 2006

Brede achieved her breakthrough when she won Ironman Germany in Frankfurt in 2006 . With some distance in the same year, she was voted German triathlete of the year by the readers of a specialist magazine.

In an attempt to defend the Ironman European Championship 2007 in Frankfurt, Brede was overtaken by Nicole Leder after an overall exceptionally fast race on the home straight and was relegated to second place. In 2008 she was unable to compete in Frankfurt due to an injury.

Brede studied sports science at the German Sport University in Cologne. She focused on the areas of management and economics. On August 1, 2009, she married Eric Steinbecher in Paris.

From spring 2009 she was a member of the Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team around Faris Al-Sultan - but left the team in March 2010.
