Trebgast is a municipality in the district of Kulmbach ( Upper Franconia administrative district ) and the seat of the Trebgast administrative community .

location

The main town of Trebgast is located about eight kilometers southeast of the district town of Kulmbach on the left side of the White Main at the tributary of the Trebgast . The municipal area extends over a total of almost 15 kilometers, first over the ridge between the two bodies of water, then also on the right-hand side of the White Main to the northeast, and extends to the city limits of Kulmbach. It is up to six kilometers wide.

The first written mention of Trebgast comes from the period between 1028 and 1040. The Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth had sovereignty since the 14th century. The margraviate belonged to the Franconian Empire from 1500 . As part of the Prussian principality of Bayreuth since 1792 , Trebgast fell to France in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 and was sold by Napoleon to Bavaria in 1810 .

On January 1, 1972, part of the dissolved community of Lindau was incorporated with the village of Lindau.

Population development

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population decreased from 1627 to 1595 by 32 or 2%. On December 31, 2000 Trebgast had 1,776 inhabitants.

Culture and sights

Christmas Eve in Trebgast with the Strohberta

The parish church of St. Johannes can be seen from afar as the town's landmark. Together with the charnel house, rectory, parish hall and the associated walls, it forms an architectural ensemble. The interior is decorated with stucco work by the Italian artist Francesco Andreioli.

The local recreation center Trebgast with the Trebgaster bathing lake is very popular . The lake is 680 meters long, 220 meters wide and approximately 68,000 square meters in size. The hiking trail around the lake is 1500 meters long. The island is 7200 square meters. The total area of ​​the local recreation center covers 18,951 hectares and was acquired by 24 owners. The construction costs amounted to 2.8 million marks. The inauguration and opening took place on June 12, 1975.

Trebgast is also known for its natural stage . The Naturbühne Trebgast e. V. emerged from the former Trebgast Transport and Beautification Association, which the local pastor Benker founded on May 30, 1892.

Trebgast participated several times in the competition Our village should become more beautiful. Our village has attended future . At the state level, the place has received one gold medal and two silver medals, and one silver medal at the federal level.

Every year on Christmas Eve the “Strohberta” passes through Trebgast. The group consists of ten men in disguise, above all the straw bear (Strohberta), the " Christkindla " and the chimney sweep . They walk from door to door through the village on December 24th. The sense of the old custom is, on the one hand, to drive away the old year for which the Strohberta stands, and, on the other hand, to conjure up happiness and a well-filled purse for the new one.

The main traffic axis is the state road 2183, which when coming from Bindlach as Bayreuther Straße, initially crosses the town from south to north. In the center of the town it bends to the east in the direction of Neuenmarkt and is then called Berliner Straße. State road 2183 crosses the railway line twice in quick succession, with Kulmbacher Strasse coming out from Kauerndorf in between.

The Trebgast station is located on the 1853 opened. single-track railway line Bayreuth-Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg . In the double-track system, trains cross according to the schedule. The central platform was rebuilt and widened at the end of 2012, the main platform at the station building was omitted. There was once a third track on the house platform, from which a blunt loading track led off in the direction of the town center.

A lever interlocking with form signals was in operation with the local interlocking in Trebgast until March 2012 . At the northern end of the station, Bayreuther Straße crosses the tracks at a level crossing that is secured with barriers. There is at least one train per hour in each direction.
