history
Until the church is planted
The first written mention of the place Kasendorf comes from the year 1286. In 1307 the burgraves of Nuremberg , the later margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, bought it. In 1328 he received market and town rights through imperial privilege . Kasendorf probably became Protestant in 1528 when the Reformation was introduced throughout the margraviate. Kasendorf was still called Kazendorf or Kazenstatt in the early 13th century, which is why Kasendorf's coat of arms depicts a cat. The name Kasendorf only came about over the centuries.
The office of the Prussian principality of Bayreuth , which had been Prussian since 1792, was in the Franconian Empire from 1500 . It fell to France in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 and became part of Bavaria in 1810 . In the course of the administrative reforms, the current community was created with the community edict of 1818 .
Historical crime
In 1808 the wife of judicial officer Wolfgang Conrad Glaser, head of the judicial office there, was poisoned with arsenic by the widow Anna Margaretha Zwanziger , the housekeeper, in Kasendorf . The Kasendorfer Poison Murder was first published by the Bavarian lawyer Paul Johann Anselm von Feuerbach (1765-1835) in his file-like representation of strange crimes , 2 vols. (1828/29). The Kasendorfer case has since been reprinted or retold in countless collections of historical crime literature all over the world (for example in the New Pitaval ). Glaser's family and social life is depicted in interesting details from a cultural and socio-historical perspective. Feuerbach's work is therefore of particular importance for the local history of Kasendorf. Gerold Schmidt has checked and supplemented the most important historical information about Feuerbach about people, dates etc.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent communities Azendorf, Döllnitz and Heubsch as well as parts of the dissolved communities Lopp and Schirradorf were incorporated. Peesten joined on July 1, 1976. Parts of the dissolved municipality of Neudorf (Zultenberg) followed on January 1, 1978.
