The castle Kasendorf is an Outbound hilltop castle at 498 m above sea level. NN on the Turmberg, 110 meters above the valley, with the Magnusturm above the municipality of Kasendorf in the district of Kulmbach in Bavaria .
history
On the 14.5 hectare unwooded summit plateau of the Turmberg there were prehistoric and prehistoric fortifications, three times walled, of which wall and moat remains from the 5th century BC. Are recognizable. On the southwest edge there are remains of a stone wall and nearby a gate (8th / 9th century) and a cellar room. In the northern part there was a chapel from 1445.
On the site beyond the 200 meter long, 20 meter wide and up to 5 meter high section wall (10th century), Kasendorf Castle, of which nothing has been passed on, was probably built in the 11th to 12th centuries. After the demolition of the castle in 1498 of the round was the foundation remains the keep , which is now 20 meters high with 40 meter circumference and a wall thickness of 3.8 meters massive Magnus tower, maintainability and signal tower built (see also waiting order of 1498 ). The chapel field, on which the castle chapel stood by a cemetery, also belonged to the castle .
There are explanatory boards on the castle grounds and on the tower, which can be seen from afar.
Todays use
At the end of the 19th century, the Magnusturm, which was previously used as a watch tower, was given a relatively small, ground-level entrance door, through which one can reach the viewing platform , which is protected by a glass structure , via an internal metal spiral staircase . Here you have a good view over Kasendorf to the Main Valley and Plassenburg in Kulmbach as well as the plateaus of Franconian Switzerland .
