The hunting lodge Himmelkron is one of the Bayreuth Margrave scale hunting lodge , which is obtained by conversion of the monastery Himmelkron arose.

The renovation work on the monastery , which died out during the Reformation , began under Margrave Christian Ernst . One of the change measures was the construction of the Baille-Maille-Lindenallee . The former collegiate church was rebuilt in the style of the margrave . The pulpit altar is typical . In the tradition of the Counts of Orlamünde , who had their burial place in the church, the margraves set up a royal crypt in the so-called knight's chapel .

During the renovation work, three wings of the cloister were demolished, the artistically high quality north wing, which was built under Abbess Elisabeth von Künsberg , has been preserved. Margrave Georg Wilhelm continued the renovation work. As the founder of the Red Eagle Order , he created the Red Eagle Hall, a sophisticated meeting place for the order members. Other meeting places can be found in the suburb of St. Georgen am See , which he created , today part of the city of Bayreuth , with a religious palace and church .

The castle fell into disrepair at the end of the 18th century when the margravate was sold to Prussia. Since the end of the 19th century, the site has been part of a social institution of the Neuendettelsau Diakonie .

The hollow ceiling of the Red Eagle Hall is adorned with stucco and cartouches with the eagle symbol in the corners . An emblem from 1712 is located above the curved sandstone chimney. Today (2012) the hall is located within the social facility and can be used and visited on special occasions.
