The Wildenstein Castle , and Castle Wildenstein called, is an Outbound hilltop castle on the Wildenstein Rock at the district Wildenstein market Presseck in the Upper Franconian district of Kulmbach .
history
It is assumed that Wildenstein Castle was built by the Lords of Wildenstein before 1318 , as indicated by a fief deed from 1318. The rulership of the Wildensteiners, who were related to the family of von (der) Grün , von Berg , von Stein , von Sack and von Reitzenstein , included Wildenstein Castle as well as Presseck and Grafengehaig . The successors of ownership were the Voit von Rieneck . Presumably the castle was destroyed in 1553 in the Second Margrave War. Remains of the moat have been preserved from the former castle complex. The castle rock is divided into several plateaus.
