history

As early as 1398, a knight's seat in the possession of the Barons von Künsberg was mentioned. When the owner of the bower, Hans Friedrich von Künsberg, died in 1571, he left his wife Ursula not only the property in Schmeilsdorf, but also his estates in Hain and Wernstein . Ursula married the cousin of her late husband, Georg Siegmund von Künsberg. In 1644 a fire destroyed the knight's seat. Christian Joachim von Künsberg had it rebuilt in 1647 and lived there until his death in 1664. After that, protracted inheritance disputes arose between his widow and daughter and Christoph Siegmund von Streitberg zu Veilbronn on the one hand and those of Künsberg on Wernstein on the other.

The date in Ganerbenbesitz property located came in 1738 in the sole possession of Friedrich Erdmann Künsbergs, who in 1750 had the existing castle built today on the site of the old knight's seat. Friedrich's heir Ludwig von Künsberg gave up the property in 1847 and left Schmeilsdorf. The vacancy rate hit the building hard. It was poorly renovated around 1970. At the beginning of the 21st century, the castle was acquired privately, completely renovated and expanded into a multi-generation house .
