Hellmut Kunstmann

Hellmut Kunstmann (born June 6, 1908 in Fürth ; † December 30, 1979 in Nuremberg ) was a German urologist and castle researcher . After studying medicine at the Universities of Erlangen and Munich, he practiced as a specialist in urology in Nuremberg until 1975 . In addition, he worked as a castle researcher and regional historian from 1938.

Appreciation

In 1928, Kunstmann became a member of the Kösener Corps Baruthia Erlangen. In addition to his profession as a doctor, Hellmut Kunstmann was a committed monument conservator, regional historian and, above all, castle researcher. After he was appointed honorary shop steward of the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in 1938, he published his first article on castles, Forgotten Wehrbauten auf der Frankenalp, in the first edition of the Fürth Contributions to Franconian Local Research . The Association of Friends of the Old Town Nuremberg, founded by Kunstmann in 1950 and headed until 1973 . V. , had a decisive influence on the reconstruction of Nuremberg's old town, which was destroyed in the war. In 1951 he was among the founders of the Altnürnberger Landschaft association. He served in various committees of the Franconian Switzerland Association, to which he had been a member since his youth. Since 1957 Hellmut Kunstmann worked as an advisory board member of the Bavarian State Association for Homeland Care, in 1964 he was appointed homeland carer for the district of Ebermannstadt. As early as 1953 he was accepted as a member of the International Castle Institute (IBI) in Rozendeal Castle in the Netherlands ; In 1972 he became an honorary member of the Historical Association for Upper Franconia and in 1975 the German Castle Association appointed him to its scientific advisory board.
