Cesare Romiti (born June 24, 1923 in Rome - † August 18, 2020 in Milan ) was an Italian manager .

Life

Cesare Romiti was born in Rome in the 1920s with a modest family and studied economics at the University of Rome after finishing school . After completing his studies, Romiti initially worked in the banking sector, but in 1947 she switched to the chemical company Snia BPD , where he rose to become CFO and Vice President. After serving as CEO of Alitalia , he joined Fiat in 1974 . Romiti rose there in 1976 to the sole responsibility of general manager. After Vittorio Ghidella , head of Fiat's auto division , resigned , he later took over his position.

In 1998 Romiti left Fiat and became President of the RCS MediaGroup . In the mid-2000s, Romiti retired from operational business life and served as chairman of the Italy-China Foundation. In 2000, Romiti was sentenced to 11 months in prison by an Italian court because of financial irregularities during his time as Fiat executive. The judgment was overturned in 2009.
