The Voit von Rieneck family was a Franconian noble family with possessions in the knight canton of Gebürg .
origin
The eponymous place Rieneck is today a town in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart . The Voits von Rieneck were first mentioned in a document in 1272 and were initially Ministeriale of the Counts of Rieneck .
In 1697 Carl Friedrich Freiherr Voit von Rieneck zu Trun- und Traustadt bought the Wildenstein estate from the Bamberg monastery . Shortly afterwards, the family was raised to the rank of imperial count by Emperor Leopold I.
After the Count Voit von Rieneck died out in 1823, their property fell to the Kingdom of Bavaria and was awarded to the royal finance minister Freiherr Maximilian von Lerchenfeld .
