The Neustadt am Main monastery is now a monastery of the Missionary Dominican Sisters in Neustadt am Main in Bavaria in the Würzburg diocese and is located between Lohr and Marktheidenfeld.

history

The first monastery in Neustadt am Main, then called Rorinlacha, was at "Michil Statt". It was founded by Burkard and Karl Martell in 738. The church was excavated in 1974 by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation. The first monastery in the valley, the "Alte Statt", was excavated by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation in 1981/82. The second Benedictine monastery in the valley of Neustadt am Main, on the Neue Statt, was founded in 772 by the former second bishop of Würzburg , Megingaud , on behalf of Charlemagne . It was a royal monastery since 772. It was dissolved in 1803 in the course of secularization . The monastery with its extensive library came into the possession of Prince Konstantin von Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg . The University Library of Würzburg acquired the remains of the Neustädter monastery library, which the prince had kept in his Kleinheubach castle. In 1857 the monastery building and church burned down. In 1960 the ruins were blown up and in 1961 a new monastery was inaugurated by the Missionary Dominicans ( Dominicans of St. Catherine of Siena from Oakford / Natal ).

Monastery study

The Dominican convent took part in the monastery study . According to their results, nuns and women of the general population live almost equally long, closely followed by monks , who have an average life expectancy of one to two years shorter than both groups of women. The men of the general population are clearly lagging behind; they live on average six years shorter than nuns and women of the general population and up to four and a half years shorter than monks.

heraldry
