Location of Trunstadt in Bavaria

Trunstadt is a parish village in the western district of Bamberg . It is a district of the municipality of Viereth-Trunstadt with around 1600 inhabitants.

The village is located on the northern foothills of the Steigerwald forest just south of the upper reaches of the River Main , about 11 km northwest of Bamberg The State Road 26 via a bypass road at the place over. A junction at Viereth leads to the A 70 motorway, which runs just under 2 km to the north (junction 13 Viereth-Trunstadt).

history

First mentioned in 793, Trunstadt is the oldest verifiable place in the Bamberg district and on the Upper Main. Since the 12th century the place was the seat of various knight families.

The community Trunstadt consisted of the main town and the districts of Stückbrunn and Weiher . In 1949 Weiher came to the Viereth community. In 1978, as part of the municipal area reform, the municipality of Viereth was formed from the two municipalities, which was renamed after Viereth-Trunstadt in 1980 .

In 1952 Trunstadt had 826 inhabitants in 144 residential buildings, in 1987 there were 1,292.

Former Trunstadt Castle

The core of the former castle of the von Rüssenbach family is from the late Middle Ages . After being destroyed in the Peasants' War , it was restored in 1525. It has been owned by the municipality since 1880. In addition to the castle and a defense tower, the administrative building with tithe barn as well as remains of the circular wall and two round towers have been preserved from the castle complex. In 1988 the facility was extensively renovated.
