from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ridgeway literally means Kammweg or Fastweg and is synonymous with the German name Höhenweg . Such a path, often very old, usually follows watersheds or at least tries to follow a contour line and to cross bodies of water close to their source or in places where they are still small. Well-known such trails in Germany are the Ochsenweg in Schleswig-Holstein , which leads to northern Jutland in Denmark , and the Rennsteig on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest .
