Heinz Kinigadner (born January 28, 1960 in Uderns , Tyrol ) is an Austrian motocross driver.

Life

Kinigadner is a trained baker and confectioner. His father Johann was already active in motorsport and in 1953 won the silver medal at the 1st Tyrolean Alpine Tour . His brothers Hansi and Klaus were also active in motocross.

From 1978 onwards, Heinz Kinigadner won several Austrian national championship titles in motocross (125 cm³, 250 cm³ and 500 cm³). In 1982 he achieved his first victory at the GP in Italy at the Motocross World Championship in the 250 cc class on a Yamaha . In 1983 Kinigadner switched from Yamaha to KTM and finished the season in eleventh place. In 1984 and 1985 he became world champion in the 250 cc class on a KTM.

In the 1990s he mainly started in motorcycle rallies. His first place in the Paris-Dakar Rally with KTM in 1994 was followed by disqualification due to an engine swap. In the same year he won the Pharaohs rally , 1995 the Paris-Beijing rally and 1996 the Atlas rally . He has been working as a sports manager for KTM since 1997 . In 2003 he ended his sporting career as a driver due to a serious motocross accident of his son Hannes, in which the latter remained paralyzed.

After the accident of his son Hannes, he and his friend Dietrich Mateschitz founded the Wings for Life foundation , which aims to make paraplegia curable.
