The von Berg family were a noble family from the Vogtland , named after their seat, the Upper Franconian town of Berg in the Hof district .

Like the von Epprechtstein, von der Grün , von Münchberg, von Radeck , von Reitzenstein , von Sparnberg, von Stein , von Thoßfell, von Töpen and von Wildenstein families , the von Berg families are considered to be a line of the Sack family, mentioned in 1091 . All of these families are therefore related to the tribe and coat of arms.

Family members took part in the Guttenberg feud of 1380. They found their way into the book of afflictions of the city of Eger as slaggers in the Egerland . Joditz and Syrau also belonged to their possessions .
