The Burgstall Radeck , also known as the Burgstall am Schlossberg, is the remainder of the high medieval hilltop castle Radeck. It was located directly above the valley of the Wild Rodach, southwest of the Rodeck district of the community Schwarzenbach am Wald in the Upper Franconian district of Hof in Bavaria , Germany . Only a ditch and an edge wall have survived from the system on a rock spur . The castle site is protected as a ground monument number D-4-5735-0003: "Late medieval castle stables".
Geographical location
The former Spornburg was about 600 meters southwest of the center of Rodeck and 250 meters north of the Bischofsmühle at around 590 m above sea level. NN high mountain spur , the Schlossberg, in the eastern part of the Franconian Forest low mountain range . To the west it is bounded by the valley of the Wild Rodach , to the south by a side valley. A small plateau joins the village of Rodeck to the east.
history
The von Radeck gentlemen were mentioned as early as the 12th century and are considered to be related to the von der Grün and other neighboring families. In the 14th century the Bamberg fiefdom of the von Waldenfels was probably the free property . The castle was destroyed in the feud between the Waldenfelser and the Landgraves of Thuringia and the Margraves of Meißen and returned in 1378. The episcopal office changed to Enchenreuth around 1500 . After the castle was given up as an official residence , it fell into disrepair in the 16th century. The castle, which had become inoperable, was further damaged during the Peasants' War in 1525. The population removed stones in order to reuse them for other buildings.
description
The wooded castle site, built with a house, is located on a mountain spur facing south-west above the deep and steep valley of the Wild Rodach . The area of the former castle slopes steeply to the south and west and was therefore very well protected by nature. To the north as well as to the east, where the pre-area rises slightly to an adjoining Franconian forest plateau, a ditch was dug for protection . This steeply sloping, semicircular trench is up to ten meters wide and five meters on the outside and eight meters on the inside. Outside, a flattened wall is presented to him, which only reaches a height of 0.5 meters. There are no more remains of the wall or other building traces.
