Tolga Doğantez (born February 22, 1975 in Izmir ) is a former Turkish football player . He is associated with the clubs Gençlerbirliği Ankara and Beşiktaş Istanbul . He played five seasons for Gençlerbirliği and won the Turkish Cup during this time . At Beşiktaş he only played one season, but this season he was part of the team for the 100th anniversary of the club's founding, which is seen as legendary, especially in fan circles.

Player career

society

Tolga Doğantez began with club football in the youth teams of various amateur clubs in his hometown of Izmir . For the 1993/94 season he moved as a seventeen year old with an amateur contract to the then third division Akhisarspor . Here he quickly made it into the regular formation and completed 21 league matches for his club by the end of the season. His club missed relegation at the end of the season and had to let part of his squad go. Doğantez left the club and moved to the second division Turgutluspor . Here he only played the first half of the season and only played four league games. For the second half of the season he was loaned to the third division club Yeni Bornovaspor from Izmir. Here he established himself straight away, so that at the end of the season, including the transfer fee, he switched to Bornovaspor. In the summer of 1996 he moved within the league to Aliağa SK , another third division club in the province of Izmir .

After a year with Aliağa, he left the club and moved to the 2nd league for the eastern Turkish club Adıyamanspor . Here he caught the talent hunters of the first division club Gençlerbirliği Ankara and moved to the capital city for the winter break. With the beginning of the presidency of İlhan Cavcav, Gençlerbirliği specialized in attracting young talents to the club across the country, even worldwide, or bringing them up from the young, then training them to become full players and then selling them on to the big Turkish football clubs at a profit.

At his new club, Doğantez worked under coach Yılmaz Vural . This coach did not take over the team until mid-November 1997 and was known to enjoy working with young players. Doğantez quickly got a place in the starting line-up at the beginning of the second half of the season and was one of the most noticeable young players of the season with 15 first division appearances. For the coming season, the Slovak coach Karol Pecze has been appointed head coach of Gençlerbirliği. Under this coach, Doğantez continued to develop and played in his second season at Gençlerbirliği in 31 of 34 possible league games. For the second half of the 1999/00 season , Pecze was replaced by Turkish coach Samet Aybaba . Under this coach, Doğantez received his regular place and at the end of the season advanced to one of the most courted players in the league. The season ended on the 5th place in the table and reached the best placement of the club after the season 1965/66 . The next season Doğantez increased his performance again and was nominated three times for the squad of the Turkish national team as a reward in 2001 . In the league he finished with Gençlerbirliği a rather disappointing 10th place in the table, but reached the final in the Turkish Football Cup of the same season . The final was won 4-1 against Fenerbahçe Istanbul on penalties and won this trophy for the second time in the club's history after 1986/87. Doğantez scored the decisive penalty to make it 4-1.

After these performances, the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş , Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray became interested in Doğantez. Beşiktaş showed the greatest interest and started negotiations early. Since Doğantez had a contract with Gençlerbirliği until 2002 and thus could leave the club after a year without a transfer, Gençlerbirliği was also interested in selling Doğantez in the summer of 2001 for a profit. Doğantez's move to Beşiktaş was announced for a short time. At his new club, he competed on the defensive position with the two Brazilian central defenders Carlos Zago and Ronaldo Guiaro . Nevertheless, he made it into the team straight away and played the first game days of the season. In the course of the season, however, he lost his regular place and was more likely to be used as a supplementary player and completed 17 first division matches. The 2002/03 season was very important for Beşiktaş, as they celebrated the 100th anniversary of the club. From the club and fan side, great demands were placed on the team and successes were expected in all competitions. So you ended the season as Turkish champions and lived up to expectations. In the UEFA Cup of the 2002/03 season, their quarter-finals participation achieved the best performance in the club's history in European club competitions.

For the upcoming season it was intended to build up the team to defend the championship and do better internationally. Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu put some players on the list of players who should leave the club. Doğantez was one of these players. So Doğantez left Beşiktaş after a season and moved within the league to city rivals İstanbulspor . With his new club he only stayed until the second half of the season and then went to the capitals of MKE Ankaragücü . The following time he changed clubs two or even three times in almost every season and thus played for a large number of top division clubs.

For the second half of the 2008/09 season he agreed with the second division club Manisaspor . Here he reached with his team at the end of the season the championship of the TFF 1st Lig and thus direct promotion to the Süper Lig . Despite this success, he left Manisaspor and moved to the newcomers Diyarbakırspor . For the second half of the season he left this club and went to the second division Boluspor . At the end of the season he moved again, this time to league rivals Karşıyaka SK . For this club he played an entire season until the summer of 2011, but did not receive a contract extension afterwards. Since he could not find a club for the upcoming season, he remained without a club in the first half of the season. For the second half of the season he then agreed with the third division club Turgutluspor .

National team

Tolga Doğantez was nominated for the first time for the Turkish national team in February 2001 by the then national coach Şenol Güneş as part of a test match against the Dutch national team and made his international debut during this encounter. He was later nominated two more times for the national team and completed another further encounter.

In 2002 and 2003 he played twice for Turkey's second selection.
