Yılmaz Vural (born January 1, 1953 in Adapazarı ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. In addition to Turkish , Vural also has German citizenship . He has lived in both Germany and Turkey since the mid-1980s and commutes between the two countries.

With its 31 coaching stations, Vural has become an example of a type of coach who changes employers very often and is therefore repeatedly mentioned in comparable cases in the Turkish and sometimes international press.

Player career

Vural began his football career as an amateur player with the reserve team Sakaryaspors . After a year he left this team and played in turn for the amateur men's clubs Sakarya Serdivan Gençlikspor , Sakarya Geyvespor and Bolu Çilimlispor .

In the summer of 1974 he moved to the then second division club Sivasspor with a professional contract . Just one season later, he left this club again and moved to the 3rd division to Tekirdağspor . At this club Vural worked for two seasons. In the third division season 1976/77 he reached with his team the championship of the Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi and rose to the second highest Turkish league. After this success he moved to the capital club Hacettepe GK within the 3rd division . After this club missed relegation at the end of the season and relegated to the amateur league, Vural moved within the city and to the second division club Ankara Demirspor . Here he played a season and then ended his football career in favor of his sports studies.

With his degree, Vural decided to continue his academic career abroad and moved to Cologne in 1980 to attend the renowned German Sport University Cologne . During his studies, Vural began playing football again as an amateur player in the local leagues. From 1980 to 1982 he played for the clubs Germania 08 Forchheim , TKV Forchheim and Ataspor eV 74 Cologne-Porz . He then began to work as a trainer alongside his studies.

Coaching career

Vural briefly coached the second division club İzmirspor in 1986 and began his coaching career in Turkey with this activity. Then he took over the first division team Malatyaspor in the same year . Although he coached numerous teams in Turkey, he did not succeed in joining one of Turkey's three major clubs ( Fenerbahçe Istanbul , Galatasaray Istanbul and Beşiktaş Istanbul ). He planned to become champions of the highest Turkish league with Fenerbahçe for five years in a row if he succeeded in coaching this team. He was not hired by Fenerbahçe as a coach contrary to his plans.

Yilmaz Vural caused media coverage after he unsuccessfully offered to coach the Turkish national football team after Fatih Terim resigned in 2009 .

On October 10, 2012, he took over the coaching position at the first division club Sanica Boru Elazığspor and replaced the resigned Bülent Uygun . With this club, already considered relegated by the trade press, he collected the necessary points and secured relegation three weeks before the end of the season. After the end of the season, he was unable to agree on a further collaboration with the club. The club announced that Vural had placed the condition that they wanted to have full control over the upcoming player acquisitions and sales.

In March 2014 Vural took over the second division club Mersin İdman Yurdu and replaced the dismissed head coach Hakan Kutlu . With this he reached the play-off final of the second division 2013/14 season , but he resigned from his position before the final. The team only took over Vural's predecessor Hakan Kutlu for the final encounter and led the team to promotion to the Süper Lig with a 2-0 victory over Samsunspor .

On December 24, 2014 signed with the second division Osmanlıspor FK . After nearly three weeks, Vural resigned as head coach.

At the end of February 2015, Vural took over the northern Turkish first division club Kardemir Karabükspor and looked after the 25th club in Turkey. With this club he missed relegation at the end of the season and then issued this club. In December 2015, Vural took over the coaching position at Gençlerbirliği Ankara . After one game and six days in office, he was sacked after his team suffered an away defeat against the bottom of the table.

In April 2016 he was hired as the new head coach of the second division side Adana Demirspor . With this club he missed direct promotion to the Süper Lig in the league phase, but qualified for the play-off phase of the league. In the play-offs, in which the last promoted team was determined by the knockout system , he brought his team to the final. Here his team lost to Multigroup Alanyaspor 4-2 on penalties. After the failed promotion, his contract was terminated prematurely, despite being valid until summer 2017. In March 2017 he took over the second division club Göztepe Izmir . On February 8, 2018, Vural was introduced as Giresunspor's new head coach .

In November 2018 he was hired as head coach at the second division side Adana Demirspor .
