He played his entire professional footballing career for Ankaragücü and twice took over the post of head coach.

Club career

Kutlu played for MKE Ankaragücü throughout his career . For the blue and yellow , the defender played 357 games in 14 years and scored six goals.

Coaching career

Immediately after retiring in October 2007, Kutlu took over the position of head coach at MKE Ankaragücü . He was the successor to Hans-Peter Briegel . Kutlu finished the season with his team in 8th place. The 2008/09 season was a chaotic season for the young coach. He was sacked on October 19, 2008 after a 3-0 loss to Sivasspor . He returned to the Ankaragücü coaching bench in January 2009 in the same season. Kutlu was sacked a second time after losing to Kayserispor on March 21, 2009.

Kutlu was sacked twice from the same club within one season. In the 2009/10 season Kutlu was from the 11th match day coach at Denizlispor . He did not manage to secure relegation with the team, and they were relegated to the 2nd division . He was released and took over Manisaspor for the new season . At Manisaspor he only stayed for the first four match days. After four defeats in four games, he had to vacate his place.

Kutlu only returned to the dugout for the 2011/12 season. His new employer is MKE Ankaragücü for the third time. Kutlu worked there from December 2011 to July 2012 and then resigned from his position after differences with the club's management. Yılmaz Özlem was later introduced as his successor.

On the 25th matchday of the 2012/13 season he took over from the first division club Mersin İdman Yurdu , who were threatened with relegation, and replaced the former coach Giray Bulak . Although he could not prevent relegation with his team, he succeeded in setting positive accents. So the club decided to continue working with Kutlu in the second division after the end of the season. In March 2014, he was fired from his post as head coach and replaced by Yılmaz Vural . Vural led the team to the final of the playoffs and then surprisingly resigned from his position. To help his old team, Kutlu took over as coach for the playoff final only. In the final his team defeated Samsunspor and thus achieved direct promotion. After the promotion, Kutlu confirmed his intention not to want to continue training the club.

At the end of October 2014 he took over the second division side Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor . After the encounter on the 13th match day of the 2015/16 season, Kutlu dissolved his contract and left the club by mutual agreement with his club.
