Limoges (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Limoges is a family of French nobility.

history

Since the 9th century she ruled the Vice-County of Limoges . This property was lost in the 12th century when the main line became extinct. Branch lines of the House of Limoges are the Vice Counts of Brosse , including Jean I de Brosse , Marshal of France , and his descendants, who inherited the County of Penthièvre . The last member of the Brosse line, Jean IV. De Brosse , died in 1564 as Duke of Étampes , Duke of Chevreuse and widower of the royal mistress Anne de Pisseleu . Much more important than these two lines is the Rochechouart line , which split off at the beginning of the 11th century.

The origin of the House of Limoges is not clear, a descent from the House of Toulouse is suspected. It is seen as the father of Vice Count Hildebert Fulgaud / Foucher, the eldest son of Raimund I of Toulouse - in fact, Raimund's brother Fredelon was not only Count of Toulouse, but also of Limoges.
