Elazığspor is a Turkish football club from the provincial capital Elazığ in the east of the country. The club played a total of four seasons in the Süper Lig in the 2000s and 2010s and is 51st in their all-time table . Since the 2014/15 season , the club has played in the TFF 1st Lig . The club colors are bordeaux and white. The team is known as Gakgoşlar according to the nickname of the residents of Elazığ Province . Due to sponsorship, the club was named Sanica Boru Elazığspor in the 2013/14 season . With five third division championships, the club and Manisaspor are the record champions of the TFF 2. Lig , the third highest division in Turkish professional football.

history

Elazığspor was founded in 1967 when the three local clubs Merkez Gençlik, Güvenspor and Harputspor merged to form a powerful team. Until 2002, the club shuttled regularly between the 2nd and 3rd Turkish league before being promoted to the first Turkish league . There the club was able to hold for two years before relegation had to be accepted as bottom of the table. In the 2010/11 season Elazigspor was promoted to the TFF 1st Lig as a master. In the first season in the second highest Turkish league, Elazigspor succeeded in direct promotion to the first Turkish league.

For the 2012/13 season , Elazığspor granted the naming rights for the duration of one season to the company Sanica Boru A.Ş. and participated in the season under the name Sanica Boru Elazığspor in the competition. In return, the association received 3,000,000 Turkish lire (equivalent to € 1,370,000 at the exchange rate at the time). This sponsorship agreement ended after just one year and so the club changed its name back to Elazığspor in the summer of 2013 . However, since this name change was not agreed with the Turkish Football Association , the club was still run as Sanica Boru Elazığspor until 2014 and the name change was later approved by the association. At the end of the 2013/14 season , the club was relegated to the second league as tenth in the table .

In the summer of 2014, the club was given a transfer ban.

Stadion

The club plays its home games in the Elazığ Ataturk Stadium with a capacity of 14,467 .
