Vanspor FK is a Turkish sports club from the eastern Anatolian city of Van . The club was founded in 1982 and plays in the TFF 3rd Lig . Van Büyükşehir Belediyespor is often mistakenly equated with the former first division club and now dissolved Vanspor . However, there are two separate clubs that played in the same league at times and were in strong competition with each other. After the bankruptcy and subsequent closure of Vanspor, Van Belediyespor changed its name to Belediye Vanspor in an attempt to succeed the more successful rival, but this was not discussed with those in charge at Vanspor.

history

The club, which was formerly called Van Belediyespor, played in the playoffs for the TFF 3rd Lig in the colors red-blue in the 2002/03 season , but missed promotion and only rose after the 2005/06 season. After changing the name and the club colors, they played in the 3rd division group 1 from now on under the current name Belediye Vanspor in the colors red-black. After the championship in the 2007/08 season they rose to the TFF 2nd Lig and rose again after the end of the 2010/11 season in the TFF 3rd Lig .

Modern times and name change

After the province of Van received the status of Büyükşehir Belediyesi (German: ' City Administration ') in 2013 , the club changed its previous name from Belediye Vanspor (German: Sports Club of the City Administration of Van) to Van on matchday 33 of the 2013/14 season Büyükşehir Belediyespor (German: Sports Club of the City Administration Van) . After the name change, the club will use the acronym Van BB or Van BBSK . Since the beginning of the 2019/20 season, the club has been renamed Vanspor FK .

Colors and coats of arms

The colors of Vanspor are red and black, which is based on the occupation of the Russians in Van in 1915. The color black is supposed to remind of the bitter and sad day and the color red of the victims of the massacres. The club's coat of arms contains the famous Vankatze , who is depicted with a soccer ball on the largest lake in Turkey, Lake Van .
