Zonguldak Kömürspor is a football club from the northern Turkish port city of Zonguldak and has played in the TFF 2nd League since 2016 . The club played a total of 14 seasons in the Süper Lig in the 1970s and 1980s . In the all-time table of the Süper Lig, the club is in 26th place.

history

Foundation of an association

The association was founded in 1945 as Kömürspor . After the club began to play in the Ikinci Lig (Lig A), (today's TFF 1st Lig), it was renamed Zonguldakspor . In season 1973-74 they were champions and thus increased in the Turkish Süper Lig on. The 1979/80 season was a great success because they came in 3rd place. At the end of the 1980s, the club rose twice in a row and reached the Turkish 3rd Lig . After relegation from the Süper Lig (1988), relegation from the Türk Telekom Lig A (1989) followed. Between 1989 and 2005 they rose again and again in the TFF 1st Lig and again in the TFF 2nd Lig . In the 2005/06 season they were relegated to the Turkish 3rd Lig.

Free fall into the amateur league and re-establishment as Zonguldak Kömürspor

In the summer of 2009, the club was relegated from the TFF 3rd Lig and thus said goodbye to Turkish professional football for the first time in its club history. After relegating to the regional amateur league, the club did not succeed in restructuring. The club kept getting into debt. As a way out, the club was renamed Fenerspor and instead the Demir Madencilik Dilaverspor club was renamed Zonguldakspor. By passing on the name, the financial reorganization of the club was achieved and the debts were transferred to the new club Fenerspor.

Since the Turkish Football Association banned the Fenerspor club from using the name Zonguldakspor , those responsible decided to temporarily use the new club Zonguldak Kömürspor , the first and original name of Zonguldakspor, and rename it back to Zonguldakspor after the debts were statute- barred. The club started the 2011/12 season under the name Zonguldak Kömürspor .

Modern times

In the 2012/13 season they just missed promotion to the professional TFF 3rd Lig. On the last day of the match, the front runners were welcomed by one point ahead of second-placed Ankara Adliyespor . A draw would have been enough for Zonguldak Kömürspor to win the championship and the associated promotion, but despite a 1-0 lead they lost 2-1, with Ankara Adliyespor scoring both goals in the last five minutes. After the game, there were massive riots inside and outside the stadium.

A season later they became champions of the BAL Lig (10th group) and had the right to participate in the playoffs. Here in Ankara on May 11, 2014, the master of the 4th group, Zara Belediyespor, was met. The game on neutral ground was won 2-0 with an oppressive superiority, so that Zonguldak Kömürspor was promoted back to the professional TFF 3rd Lig after seven years of amateur football .

The club ended the fourth division season 2015/16 with the play-off victory of Group 1 and thus returned to the TFF 2nd Lig after ten years of abstinence .
