Volkan Yayım, also referred to by some sources as Volkan Yayın (born August 1, 1950 in Gölcük ), is a former Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of work for Zonguldakspor and as a home grown man, he is very strongly associated with this club. Fan and club members regard him as one of the most important players in club history. With 179 first division appearances for Zonguldakspor, he is in the list of players with the most Süper Lig appearances in the club's history in 7th place.

Player career

The beginnings of Yayım's football career are undocumented. As a first documented activity, he began to play for the second division Altınordu Izmir from the 1970/71 season . For this club he played for the next three seasons. For the 1977/78 season he was obliged by the first division club Zonguldakspor . Here he established himself as a regular player and top performer in a very short time. He became a Turkish national player in September 1977. The season 1979/80 he ended with his team completely surprisingly on the 3rd place in the table and thus achieved the best first division placement in the club's history. As a defender with four first division goals, Yayım was one of the most successful goal scorers of his team. He also played a key role in ensuring that his team, with 19 goals conceded, became the team with the fewest goals conceded after champions Trabzonspor . In the following season, Yayıms team stayed in the league with the 7th place in the table below the previous year's performance. Yayım himself scored six league goals this season, making it his most scoring season of his career. He played for Zonguldakspor until the summer of 1984. During this time he and his team reached 4th place in the table in the 1981/82 season and thus the second-best first division placement in the club's history. Yayım was also one of the most important players on his team this season and scored 4 goals in 29 league games.

For the 1984/85 season , Yayım moved to league rivals MKE Ankaragücü . At this club, which was promoted after the military coup in Turkey in 1980 by the Turkish general, putschist and subsequent 7th President Kenan Evren , he did not succeed in asserting himself as a regular player. He finished the season with his club in 4th place in the table, repeating the best first division placement in the club's history.

After his activities in the 1985/86 season remained undocumented, he returned to Zonguldakspor in the summer of 1986 and played for this club for the next year.

National team

Yayım's national team career began in 1977 with a commitment for the Turkish national team . Here he was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in a test match against the Czechoslovak national team by national coach Metin Türel and made his international debut in this match.

He made a total of nine senior internationals and scored one goal.

Coaching career

Like his footballing career, Yayım's coaching career is undocumented in its beginnings. According to evidence, he coached various clubs in the lower leagues of the Turkish Black Sea region from 1993 , including Zonguldakspor twice .
