The Spor Toto Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi 2001/02 was the first season of the fourth-highest Turkish division in professional men's football. It was started on August 26, 2001 with the 1st matchday and ended on May 12, 2002 with the 34th and final matchday. With this season, Turkish professional football was expanded from a three-tier system to a four-tier system. In this new staggering, the third highest division was now titled as Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi, while the newly created fourth highest division was henceforth run as 3. Lig or TFF 3. Lig . The Turkish state sports toto company Spor Toto secured the naming rights of the league for a few years, which is why this season was called Spor Toto Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi 2001/02 .

Competition mode

In the 2001/02 season the TFF 3rd Lig was played as a five-track league, with the total team number was 91. These 91 teams played in eight groups with 18 and 19 teams each for promotion to the 2nd Lig Bategorisi or against relegation to the regional amateur league. The division of the league was carried out regionally, so that mostly all teams in a group came from neighboring or close to one another provinces . All first and second place winners were promoted directly to the 2nd Lig B category , while the teams in the last four places in the table of all groups were relegated to the regional amateur league.

Since the league was introduced this season, it was made up of promoted and relegated teams from the existing leagues. The league consisted of the five relegated from the 2. Lig Bakirköyspor , Yeni Salihlispor , Çorluspor , Düzcespor , Ankara ASAŞ , the 79 losers from the 3. At the start of the season, several clubs changed their names. Thus Diyarbakir Telekomspor in Diyarbakir Kayapinar Belediyespor , Kırşehir Petlasspor in Yeni Kirsehirspor , EGSA's Aksarayspor in Aksarayspor , Aliağa SK Aliaga Belediyespor , İzmit Bekirpaşaspor in Körfez Belediyespor , AYVALIKGÜCÜ BELEDIYESPOR in AYVALIKGÜCÜ BELEDIYESPOR Belediyespor and Bayrampaşa Makelspor in Altıntepsi Makelspor renamed.
